FABCOS took such a stand in 1988 when negotiations for a new political dispensation were at their peak, that the unfair playing field for small and medium township and rural businesses needs to be leveled, that small business has a significant role to play in the socio-economic development of South Africa and that South Africa should be a country in which small business entrepreneurs can ply their trade in an environment that is respectful and empowering and that recognizes the injustices of the past
